Love Yourself First!

    Before we can begin glamming up the outside, we must check out the inside! How we feel, how we feel about ourselves!  Do you love yourself? When was the last time You paid Yourself a compliment? Told yourself, “I am a wonderful person!” Notice I used the word “Wonderful!” Most of us are good, nice people.  And you may even think of yourself in those terms.  But the kind of Joy I want for you, comes from moving out of the default of just feeling good about yourself into the arena of “Wonderful!”  You can do that by Loving Yourself First!

    This will be an ongoing topic for me, because loving yourself takes daily work, like prayer and exercise!

    I recommend Self-Love exercising;

1.     Know your positives, and compliment yourself on them daily. I have great legs! They were the 1st thing my husband says he noticed about me. I wear mostly dresses and skirts with heels, because I know my legs are one of my positives (more about that in an upcoming post!) I also have a great smile, which I use as often as possible!

2.     Overcome negative thoughts about yourself; never call yourself names, like stupid and dumb! Don’t compare yourself to others who may fit the world’s ideal.  When I was young, I used to cover my mouth because of the space between my teeth!  When I was 13 someone, I admired told me I had a beautiful smile! All that person saw was joy on my face, not the space.  As I said before, my old negative is now one of my best positives!

3.     Avoid trying to be perfect. I make one of the best pound cakes around.  But it never comes out perfectly even on top.  Do you think anybody is concerned about a lopsided cake after they taste it? No!

4.     Give yourself “Me” time.  Time to be alone, time to do only what you want to do! We have become so used to taking care of everybody else; days, weeks, months even years go by and we haven’t taken time for “Us!”  I love going to the movies! Once a month, I go to the theater and do two or three movies in one day! Then have lunch or dinner by myself! (My “Knight”, says to tell you he gets invited to dinner sometimes!!!)

5.     Spend time with “Your Girls!”  One of the best things’ we women of “a certain age” can do, is nurture our relationships with our girlfriends!  Laughter, and soul steering times are crucial to a healthy YOU!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
